Eli Broad & Dean’s Distinguished Speaker Series
I took a break from reading round one applications to enjoy an hour listening to Eli Broad speak here at UCLA Anderson as part of the Dean’s Distinguished Speaker Series. His Broad Foundation has over $2 Billion in assets and actively practices “venture philanthropy”.
Mr. Broad stated that any cause his foundation supports must pass three tests. I loved the practicality of this. It reminds me that “a good idea” alone, is not sufficient. The three tests are:
- Will this happen without our support?
- Will this make a difference 20-30 years from now?
- Does the leadership exist to pull it off?
Mr. Broad also talked about his support of blended learning, which we are leading with our FEMBA Flex schedule this year.
As the parent of two young children, I’m glad to hear billionaires like this looking at how we can create education that works for everyone.
